What version of the module are you using?

Gabriel, thanks for the bug report! You're quite right: I noticed this during testing two weeks ago. This is actually a symptom of an ongoing problem: see kennethreitz/requests#1286 for an idea of just how extensive it is.
However, this specific problem was caused by urllib3, and I submitted a PR upstream which was accepted (urllib3/urllib3#168). It will take a while for this to make it into Requests, but when it does this issue will go away. Keep an eye out for a version bump in Requests!
