I'm also experiencing this issue. Simulator works great with web view signing but when I try it with an actual device, it opens the google app and when it returns to my app, it fails with the error:
A potentially recoverable error occurred. You may try again.

Hmm that comment where it's 'fixed' was a good 3-4 months before this issue was even opened.

Do you experience the problem with the latest library version and latest React Native? I try to close old issues but you can reopen if the problem is still there.
