With native D&D backend, there is no way to change drag preview in process.

I intend this module to have several backends (including touch-based one) so at some point this will be solveable via alternative backend.

What you can do now is supply an alternative and more generic drag preview (an image):

beginDrag() {
  return {
    item: {},
    dragPreview: ...
  };
}

There are a few quirks with how browsers render drag images, so check out ImagePreloaderMixin.

I'm looking forward to the touch based backend so I can base a mousemove backend on it... Setting the placeholder and the mouse cursor will be great
