First draft (still to be edited).

Since March, eight Swiss Higher Education institutions (DaSCH, FORS, EPFL Blue Brain, eXascale Infolab, SATW, SAGW, SDSC and SWITCH) are collaborating for piloting the vision of a Research Data Connectome. The "Connectome" aims to make research data from various disciplines, stored in different locations, easily findable, accessible, reusable and connected. The goals of this pilot are twofold: evaluating the feasibility of the vision and understanding the key added values for researchers.

As part of this pilot, the eXascale Infolab will build a prototype to crawl metadata from various repositories and map it towards a RDF format that can be included in the Connectome knowledge graph (see also here). The metadata schema of this graph is still tbd. Our current hypothesis is, that we can move forward with schema.org or DCAT 2. In the future, this Linked Data Pipeline could potentially include machine-actionable DMP metadata. The Connectome Linked Data Pipeline will be open-sourced.

Objectives for the Hackathon

  • Gain an understanding of International DMP Metadata-Standards (from Working Group)..
  • Crawl metadata from Swiss (or other) DMPs (PDF format, obtained from DCC DMPonline, if possible) as an additional source for the Connectome Linked Data Pipeline.
  • Find some initial ways to map the extracted metadata to the Connectome Knowledge Graph and FORSbase (SWISSUbase).

Participants from the Connectome pilot (or related activities)

  • Laura Rettig (Université de Fribourg).
  • Bojana Tasic (FORS).
  • Kurt Baumann (SWITCH).
  • Sebastian Sigloch (SWITCH).

Participants from the RDA Working Group would be highly welcomed to join this initiative.
