I noticed this too. I'm reviewing at PR that adds Slack badge to our project (robotframework/robotframework#2069) and was surprised that it looks so different compared to shields.io badges. I think I'll merge the PR anyway and hope that styles get improved later.
Issue #73 is about this issue too.

I will note that this isn't a constant thing. I've seen it a few times too, but most of the time I see this:

I get the black badge consistently in desktop and mobile safari across multiple devices. Chrome, seems to render it just fine.

Can confirm safari breaks it, whereas chrome works fine.
