The problem with Boxen is that it's OS X only. Also we have tried the installation as minimal as possible.

Maybe this could be an additional guide on how to get a full-blown development environment on OS X? The initial installation instructions for OS X use Homebrew so I'd guess that first doing that and then using Boxen would work fine.

Right, I just intended this be an alternative to the current OS X install script. You can definitely pare down that list to only install the essentials. Boxen also installs homebrew for you, but it won't work correctly with a pre-existing homebrew installation.

I just prefer Boxen to Tokaido (at the moment) for OS X installs because Boxen is a finished product. Since it's built on top of Puppet, it's also very easy to configure, and it will handle properly detecting (and skipping) anything that's already installed. Using boxen-web also means that I can point my install fest participants at a friendly website where they can copy and paste the install script line and follow along with any instructions I care to add there.

As an alternative, we could just drop a line in the README pointing to our RailsGirls ATX boxen script, rather than including it here directly, just to give folks another option.

I think providing the option would be great!

+1 for putting a link on the homepage. From my own experience, the only caveat is that Boxen even on a Mac can cause issues for newcomers, not right at first but upon trying other tutorials that don't intermix. In other words, Boxen tries to take over the entire machine and if one tries to thwart that model, buyer must beware.
ps I did google for RailsGirls ATX boxen script and couldn't find it :). I'm curious myself how you did it differently than our-boxen.

The boxen project seems to be archived. Closing.
We have an updated macOS install guide now: https://guides.railsgirls.com/install/macos
