With the current design we'll loose the effectiveness of the contrast between 300/400/600 and 400 is to bolder as a base in that scenario. The Open Sans font looks great at 300 even at 14px. I can change the base font size to 16px, instead of 15px, but I'm not for a base font-weight change.
