Original comment by Arthur Lutz (BitBucket: arthurlogilab, GitHub: @arthurlogilab?):
I'm not sure I get the scenario, do you want to say "run pylint over my project and it's dependencies" ? Assuming that it's dependencies are stored in subdirectories ?

Original comment by Sylvain Thénault (BitBucket: sthenault, GitHub: @sthenault?):
pylint already search for pylintrc file starting from the current working directory and up to the package root (searching for init.py)

Original comment by John McGehee (BitBucket: jmcgeheeiv, GitHub: @jmcgeheeiv?):
The existing documentation is inaccurate.
I just added documentation on how Pylint searches for the pylintrc file. It describes the behavior to which Sylvain Thénault refers.
It's about half way down the page.

Original comment by Andrew Pennebaker (BitBucket: mcandre, GitHub: @mcandre?):
Thank you for clarifying!
One thing I would change is the priority order: project-local pylintrc configuration should override global pylintrc configuration, e.g., some projects may use soft tabs, others hard tabs, and project-local pylintrc files are a good way to manage that.

Original comment by Sylvain Thénault (BitBucket: sthenault, GitHub: @sthenault?):
@jmcgeheeiv would you have a patch for this so I integrate it back?
@mcandre it's already the case
