@ruckc So I'm torn. On one hand, we want to provide a single interface to users who just want 'basic stuff working' like source/destination and ports ... on the other hand we need escape hatches for those power users who want to squeeze everything out of their local provider.

One example is the way we deal with matches, right now its crap - matches are an array of hashes, but instead we change it so you can only really have a preset list of matches with iptables. We don't allow power users to express what they want here.

I think at the minimum, you should keep the main properties the same - destination, source, dport, sport, proto, action ... these are what I would consider the core properties. I've attempted to make them in particular more ordinary - like dport/sport uses hyphenated ranges not colon for example. If these get mapped to the provider specific equivalents we provide the basics for cross-platform 'open this port' type rules, which other modules might want to use.

Where it gets tricky is the nat and forwarding and more complex matching, those should have their own properties most probably and can certainly be provider specific if necessary. Until we see the differences though its hard to make a call on these non-core properties.
