I cloned your repro, ran pnpm i and then pnpm up -i on Ubuntu 23.10
The interactive upgrade selection took 2–4 seconds to show up for me, so I cannot reproduce your experience.
Note that this command depends a lot on the speed of your internet, so that might be the issue in your case.

I can't say I have slow internet connection - it's 1 Gb/s fiber to router, then wifi6 to PC. Wi-Fi card has intel AX200 chipset, so I believe it should be stable in linux. Speedtest results vary, but it's typically around 750-850mb/s download and 80-100mb/s upload. I don't think hardware is the problem either: hard drive is m.2 adata sx8200 pro, the rest is ryzen 5800x with 64G ram on motherboard with B550 chipset.
Just in case I've tested pnpm up -i performance in Windows WSL2 / Ubuntu 22.04 and the result is consistently around 2-3s
Do you know if there's a way to enable more detailed output? --loglevel debug doesn't do anything
from pnpm.
