We'd need to read all the lockfiles and pick the one that satisfies the available package.json files. That is a more complex change to the pnpm codebase for seemingly something that is an edge case.

When on the detached commit, I can run pnpm install --merge-git-branch-lockfiles and it merges both lockfiles and installs dependencies. This doesn't solve the issue as I want the branch lockfile but I thought to share either way.

Why does your CI work like this?

We can try to find what branch the commit belongs to with the git branch -a --contains <SHA> command.

Thanks @zkochan for getting back with this 🙏🏻 This is default behaviour of builtkite.com

I was wondering, and I am sure I am missing something, could a solution be to always consolidate all lock files when the setting is on? Otherwise I think your check works as well.

Oh I see yes that makes sense. I reached out to the buildkite folks as well to get their take. Will post back once I know more.
