Im sorry, I can give away more information right now. Due to our lack of time we gave up on migrating to Rails 4 for a while. As soon as I have the time I will provide the necessary information.
Btw, what info do you find relevant?
Any specific gem version would be helpful?

For example, if you have any errors in the rails server output (GET errors related to captcha).
Something to be able to reproduce, like a minimal rails app

If you are on a mac like me, running brew install ghostscript should do the trick.
Provided your error is "Error while running convert: convert: unable to read font".
Many thanks @zealot128 for updating the gem to rails 4.
