Quick thought: moving from Riot to Gitter.im. The latter is used heavily by pydata development teams, so we'll more easily integrate with those groups if we use that platform. We'll likely attract more users and gitter fully integrates with github, making some things quite seamless.

That sounds reasonable. Riot seems nice whereas I haven't used gitter much, but I guess home is where the python devs are.

Everyone, would another change of chat room be okay with you?

No problem for me, and I think the earlier we change the better.

Personally I'd rather not change, partly because we've only recently moved over to Riot, and partly just because I have a personal preference for it. There is a bridge to gitter though, so I'd be happy to set that up and we can have a gitter channel that I don't have to use :P

We now have a gitter room for those who want to use it, and a bridge into the matrix room for those who don't.

A bridge between gitter and matrix sounds great! Though admittedly, I only 43% know what that means. :-)

It would be good to include how to get started with both of these on the top-level README page too, perhaps after testing the bridge for a little while.

Yes, that's what the bridge does - messages in one are automatically passed to the other.

If there's further discussion on the messaging service I suggest we move it to its own issue.
