Two more thoughts:
- This task would probably work well in conjunction with coding up a spectral/finite element solver, since there are several papers that describe spectral/finite element Grad-Shafranov solvers. (I'm also curious if there already exist open source spectral element frameworks that are written in Python/Cython.)
- I suspect that this functionality already exists within OMFIT and the packages it calls, so that could perhaps be a reason to prioritize this less highly. Many of these packages are not open source, however, so it would be be great to add something in this regard sooner or later.
