This issue has annoyed me as well. Some time ago, I had made a quick-hack-patch to satisfy my itch, but when I saw that at least a few others have run into this issue I decided to clean up my code, add comments, and pull over some of the coding practices from the fslint-gui to help standardize the code a bit. I just finished reworking the code, so this patch hasn't been tested as well as my other patch, but it sure is more functional and easier to read! ;-)

I have tested this on Debian Squeeze, RHEL6.3, and Ubuntu 12.04. So far it works with my systems. I even provided a simple copypasta shell script to test out all the possibilities I could think of.

Actually there is a human() function already used in fslint-gui.
