Well... It all comes down to what you're trying to achieve. Why would you like to "pre-compress some long strings for inclusion in JS code" ?
This seem like a weird thing to me and I can't find a real life situation where I would need to do that. So I don't really know how to advise you...
Those weird characters are UTF-16 characters (assuming you compressed with compressToUTF16) and by this virtue, could very well be copy-pasted into source code, provided your source code files are in some form of unicode encoding (UTF-*). If you want pure ASCII you can try compressToBase64
from lz-string.
