Interesting. I mostly just use supervisor for development, and I get the impression that most others do too. Maybe someone else who's tried to use it like you can pitch in here.

Can you tell puppet to background a process? Locally, I can run supervisor in the background just fine with &.

So what's interesting is if I tell Chef to start supervisor with a command like that it looks like supervisor starts up and actually kicks off the nodejs process. But for some reason when chef exits the supervisor process is killed, orphaning the nodejs process. I think it has to do with how chef spins up those bash instances on the VM. I was wondering if maybe having an init.d process start up supervisor would fix it, but I haven't been able to make that work yet. If I find a solution, I will be sure to detail it back here. Wish me luck :)

Closing for inactivity. Supervisor is definitely more oriented towards development at this point - there are better options for production.
