I've noticed this slowness on Mac. For me, the problem is that fsevents (file change notifications on Mac) aren't yet supported by the core Node call, and it defaults to a ~5s polling period. Linux inotify is supposed to be supported by Node, but maybe the fact that you're on a VM is interfering.

I've submitted a solution as pull request #22. Setting the polling interval to something low (like 1ms) makes the refresh instantaneous.

With 0.2.0, you can set a low polling interval like this:

supervisor -p 50 myapp.js

That should give you snappy restarts - reopen this if it doesn't.
