This looked like a solution:
https://stackoverflow.com/questions/68991455/how-to-see-how-far-a-text-widget-is-currently-scrolled-in-tkinter

However, this doesn't work for the ContentsViewer class:

    def refresh(self, event=None, *args):
        """Reload the text to view."""
        if self._mdl.prjFile is None:
            return

        if self._parent.winfo_manager():
            position = self.yview()[0]
            self.view_text()
            try:
                self.yview_moveto(position)
            except:
                pass

It looks like the previously read position is not precisely set when written, so there is an offset that increases as the y position increases.

This also doesn't work:

    def refresh(self, event=None, *args):
        """Reload the text to view."""
        if self._mdl.prjFile is None:
            return

        if self._parent.winfo_manager():
            position = self.vbar.get()
            self.view_text()
            try:

                self.vbar.set(position)
            except:
                pass

Since the text box content cannot be read as (text, tag) tuples, there is no easy way to check whether the view_text() method can be skipped when refreshing the contents viewer.
