I think this is nothing an app should implement on itself. Instead I'd suggest to directly change the screen-off time from the settings menu. I guess there are even widgets for turning that on and off.

I was thinking that as gallery apps or navigation apps keep the screen on, so could an audiobook app, if the user might want to interact with it over an extended period of time, such as when listening to a long piece of audio.
