An alternative would be to have a simple systemd script like
linux:/etc/init.d # cat /usr/lib/systemd/system/proactive-agent.service
[Unit]
Description=ProActive Agent
[Service]
Type=simple
ExecStart=/usr/bin/python /opt/proactive-agent/proactive-agent --logFile /opt/proactive-agent/proactive-agent.log --debug --daemon /opt/proactive-agent/config.xml
# Give a reasonable amount of time for the server to start up/shut down
TimeoutSec=300
[Install]
WantedBy=multi-user.target
and to use
systemctl enable proactive-agent.service
systemctl enable proactive-agent.service

- /etc/init.d/proactive-agent stop produces output if already stopped and cgcreate is installed
- Service restart not supported
- Addons/ is not in Agent's classpath

- Properly install the provided man page so that it is accessible via "man proactive-agent"
- Setting cgroup memory limit prevents the node from starting on default ubuntu 14.04 HOT 1
