Hi Clifton,
I think this is a problem with your current font set rather than with Emacs Live. You probably have two options - move to a font that has an italic version of the set char, or to turn off the fancy set membership feature.
Out of interest, does the lambda symbol disappear when made italic?

Nope, the lambda looks just fine. Maybe it is just my font set, but the line height on set membership is also a bit too tall. Out of curiosity, what font are you using?
