This is not yet implemented (I've now update the Wiki page to correctly reflect the status). There are some ideas how to do that but no fixed plans yet when it will happen.

Hi,
I am having a need for this feature in my project, any idea if this will be implemented anytime soon, or can I use a table in the Nominatim database to implement my own autocomplete feature?

Have a look at https://github.com/komoot/photon/ which implements autocomplete based on Nominatim address data.
