I tried it by installing via the configure script and in this case adios_config -v
was correctly set to 1.7.0
(also in FindADIOS that only calls that).
You hit the nail on the top: it's exactly the line you spottet for the cmake based install only 👍
A general approach to avoid that problem could be to write a central version.h
file (like boost does) and to parse that file from all scripts. So one does not forget to update all the scattered places during a release.

Subject: [ADIOS] adios_config incorrectly reports 1.6 (#26)
I just built and installed ADIOS 1.7, but adios_config -v, and thus FindADIOS reports version 1.6.
The culprit seems to be: https://github.com/ornladios/ADIOS/blob/master/CMakeLists.txt#L1272
