Those the initial state imply that the runtime must instantiate the node instances ?

We started a proper state representation with commit 4396b70.
All instance-related resources (Node, ServiceTemplate, Relationship) got a property state. The property is a Enum type and uses the proposed states by the TOSCA spec as its base. So, the core model as well as the DAOs using these new states from now on, e.g. calling a DELETE via the API will set the DELETED state on the respective instance.
It is still an open issue how we want to reflect the complete lifecycle of our instance and what component is triggering such lifecycle or rather state changes.

The possible states are defined in the NodeType (see tab Instance States in
Winery). +1 for default states if no states are defined by the NodeType
