what your doing is the correct approach. You are correct that there is no configuration option no-sse2 in openssl, nor should there be. Fine grained options like that need to be passed through to the compiler exactly as you did, by passing -mno-sse2 after your configuration options.
With the passing of that option, is your issue resolved then?
