CC @mnkugler @seanneumann

I know @ananzh implemented this for table visualizations: https://github.com/opensearch-project/OpenSearch-Dashboards/blob/main/src/plugins/vis_type_table/public/utils/convert_to_csv_data.ts

I think we could generalize this to work for other datagrid content, including discover and embedded saved searches. I also wonder if it would be better to just add it as native functionality to the OUI data grid component.

My company has also been using Kibana dashboards for a long time and the ability to directly download Searches embedded into the dashboards would be really helpful. Our customers are usually not directly in our domain and therefore training them to look into the Reporting section isn't always feasible. Thank you for the support on this.

@joshuarrrr @kavilla

We can download a saved search as CSV , but only in discover.
We cannot download a saved search in a dashboard & that is what is required.

Would this be an appropriate place to ask if we could just have the 'download' as a CSV even without a saved search? For people that just want to use the 'Discover' tab and filter down to data they would like to see, then export it and do further analysis on it. It seems that just being allowed to 'download' your current search as a CSV to share would be helpful.

This would be of great help. Thank you @joshuarrrr.

Requiring write permissions to download data for read-only users in Opensearch seems pretty non-intuitive.

Thank @Sandy381, I think the proposal seems sound and the placement seems to make sense to me!

@kgcreative @btzeng What are your thoughts on the design?

Right now we can go & download saved search from discover tab

This is currently implemented by the reporting plugin, as seen in this screenshot:

Note that the current flow requires the user to first save a search before gaining access to the CSV option - we may also want to investigate whether we can make the flow a bit more streamlined.

Will re-route this issue to the reporting plugin repo to extend functionality based @joshuarrrr, but if there are decisions that about rolling downloading CSVs into core then we can have a larger conversation.

Same feature request as https://github.com/opensearch-project/dashboards-reports/issues/175 . This is a highly requested feature, and it has been brought up quite often.

Yeah, @mbonnici55, I think we may update the table portion of discover to a component that has native support for CSV exports. @ananzh What do you think - could this be in scope for discover as part of using DataGrid?

Hi, has there been any updates on this feature?

On the back of @mbonnici55, Our Opensearch Users require to download "Discover" query results as a CSV but do not and cannot have write permissions.
