It would be awesome to paint the components a different colour after they are marked as placed.

I will think if there is a nice way to add this in terms of UI but in the meantime you can sort by checkbox so that all "placed" components are at the end of the list for example.

Came here with the same idea as @obbardc
I think it would be great to be able to see in the overview picture which components are already on the board. Especially on partially populated boards I expect this to be very useful.
