It works like charm on my phone without play services!
What a beautiful app!
It would be so awesome if you could keep it working that way.
Lineage OS without gapps installed is the way to test it. I am sure it
is possible to get it as a simulator for tests.

@qutorial You can google a 3rd party website that allows you to download an APK from the PlayStore easily e.g. this site does the job really well: https://apkpure.com/
That being said, Play Services are currently required by our app. We haven't tested our app without it, so we won't be too sure if the app will work without Play Services.

@qutorial
We are majorly using Google play services in our code base for Email authentication, Google analytics and used in some thirdparty sdks as well. Can you please specify why you want to use code base without play services?

Hi folks.
First of all, thank you very much for your response and looking into this issue at all.
This article describes the way I (as some other privacy and security conscious people) use
our Android phones, and the very broad range of permissions required by a closed-source
google play services bundle: https://molotnikov.de/securing-android#play-services
This is basically the reason not to have google play services on the phone at all.
Many of the apps keep working fine, some which depend on google play services
work with limitations. Maybe your app will be too? If you send me an APK,
I can test and report.
Websites that grab APKs from the playstore might be injection unwanted code into the
APKs. Is the one on apkpure same like you build it or modified?
Thanks a lot for your answers.

I downloaded it from the said website and the size of the downloaded APK was the same as our market version. Also, worked fine when I installed it.

Ok, thanks a lot for trying it our for me!
How about sha256sum dowloaded.apk
? (This would be a more precise check if the file is the same)

Great! Good to know that it worked for you π
The cases that immediately come to my mind that won't work without gapps are:
- Our Branch.io integration.
- Signup/Signin using Google.
Note: Extensive testing can tell if there are more parts in app that won't work though.

Well, I have just used my gmail address and password for normal login (without oauth and google), and it worked fine. It would be very nice if it could stay an option.

Yeah .. social login through Google is behind a feature flag and will stay that way.
