And here is the liked telescope issue nvim-telescope/telescope.nvim#821 you also need to bump popup.nvim

To answer your question "Why is the change needed?" because neovim had a bug where not all autocommands where trigger and someone set to much autocmds to make sure that the buffers are cleaned up. After that neovim change these autocommands are now triggered to early, deleting the buffer while we still needed it.

Confirming that the above error no longer appears when having bumped the popup.nvim. I am encountering other telescope issues in Neovim HEAD though that are not in neovim/neovim@4be0e92db, but I will close this issue and report those issues separately.
