Does the current version of js-yaml support handling this scenario?

No, it is not supported.

If so, how can I achieve the desired result?

You can get creative, for example by using implicit tags:

let yaml = require('js-yaml')

function Color(value) {
  this.value = value
}

let ColorType = new yaml.Type('!color', {
  kind: 'scalar',
  instanceOf: Color,
  resolve: () => false,
  represent: color => {
    return yaml.dump(color.value, { styles: { '!!int': 'hexadecimal' } })
  },
})

let schema = yaml.DEFAULT_SCHEMA.extend({ implicit: [ ColorType ] })

console.log(yaml.dump({
  number: 10,
  color: 255
}, {
  schema,
  replacer(k, v) {
    if (k === 'color') {
      return new Color(v)
    }
    return v
  },
}))

That's not intentional feature, and it's not guaranteed to work in the future, but... it works now.
