I believe in drag and drop installation on Mac OS X. Installers are for Windows applications.

You are right about the drag-n-drop but missing and important point: this is only for standalone applications. As you can see even Apple does have installers for applications requiring installation of files outside Applications.
There are two solutions here: make an installer OR make a standalone application that installs and configures the service when you run it.
