Hi,
No problem and thanks for the report. I'm only using tmux 2.6 here. Not even Debian Buster is using 2.9 yet in its official repos. I'm not sure if imposing such a new release is a good move since it's going to alienate just about everyone who isn't running Arch or manually updates every package / ppa to the bleeding edge.
I wonder if there's a way to do a version check in the config and then support both. This is something I haven't looked into yet.
