Ok, I've already been thinking about client authentication. I created a branch that does exactly that:

It uses a passphrase on the client to authenticate to the server. You can have multiple pass phrases, so you could give a passphrase to a client that you can later revoke (if it is behaving badly)

Thanks, that seems to work well in my initial testing. My hope for this feature is that it will add a little more security so that an unknown system cannot send POSTs to my web server. One proposed change in the documentation line in config_default.php

From:
defaults write /Library/Preferences/MunkiReport.plist Passphrase 'secret1'

To:
defaults write /Library/Preferences/MunkiReport Passphrase 'secret1'
