Oh, right. Sorry about that. There is no reason to not have them both.
Personally I think the godoc examples are underused for libraries like this. They give the dev less to worry about (have the output of the example checked by go test) and the user gets the same kind of snippets as with the extra standalone programs. But maybe that's just me.
