Sorry, more precisely the example of filename is should be something like
/tigress/HSC/HSC/rerun/miyatake/stile/00817/HSC-I/output/whisker-0001228-049.png
(I didn't remember when I wrote down that on the whiteboard!), if we follow the convention of the HSC pipeline.
I have to talk to the software team (probably @TallJimbo ) about this.

I have an idea for how to implement the approach Hironao suggested, but it will require some small modifications to the HSC pipeline. The idea is that Stile would ask the Butler for a filename, given a data ID (a dictionary like {"visit": 1228, "ccd":40} or {"tract":0, "patch": "3,4", "filter": "HSC-I"}) and name for the plot (e.g. "whisker"). The Butler would make sure the rerun exists, and create it with the proper links if it does not, and then return the full path, but it'd be up to Stile to actually create the file.
I don't think this will be hard to implement, but I'll be traveling for four weeks starting on Sunday, and I doubt I'll have much time to work on it before I get back. It sounded like Hironao may have an idea that will work until then.

Yes, it would be excellent to have this functionality!

Jim, that sounds great but certainly not urgent. Hironao can do #19 quickly and that'll be enough for the near future. Let's talk again once you're done traveling...
