exec('pm2 restart app') is equivalent to ssh foo@bar 'pm2 restart app', so both should fail in the same way.

Basically exec() does not start an interactive session, which means shell startup/configuration scripts do not get executed (e.g. .bashrc). So if you are adjusting your PATH in such scripts, you won't see those changes.

from ssh2.

Ok thank you.

For those who encounter this problem in the future: I source the file I need before executing my command:

conn.exec('[ -s ~/.bashrc ] && source ~/.bashrc; pm2 restart app', function exec(err, stream) {...})

from ssh2.
