Also a little tidbit: if you put your 'path' field before your file fields in your form, you will always get the path before the files.

The path is before the file in the form I'm using. I'm not sure if I trust the console statements to indicate the actual ordering of things that happened, since the timestamps are all identical.

Looks like this is related to the original request stream doing something weird due to some previous middleware. For the time being, the code I posted theoretically works.
