Yes, this is unfortunately a bit poorly documented at the moment. The reason for this is that the way the build and host objects are defined is in motion. Their functionality might get moved somewhere else. The reason for this is that it is not clear what the best design for this functionality would be and for this reason there is no good documentation yet (I don't want people to rely on these things being available and reliable). I'll try to create something workable for this issue at some point.
