I just realized that I had compiler optimization off when I built rtl_433 and that makes a HUGE difference. With optimization at -O3, running rtl_433 at 1,200,000 samples/second now only uses 20% of Raspberry Pi's cpu. That compares to almost 60% with optimization off. Wow!

With optimization, processing 250,000 samples per second with rtl_433 uses only 5% of Pi's cpu.

I know now I'm being greedy, but I'd still like to try to get decimation working. If I can get it to work I think I'd end up at 10% cpu for rtl_433. That'd give me lots of headroom and keep the cpu cooler, since this will be running 24/7.
