Hello, consider a 4x4 matrix:

1, 2, 1, 2,
3, 4, 3, 4,
1, 2, 1, 2,
3, 4, 3, 4,

All 1 value are top left if you treat 2x2 area as a small patch, and it's easier for readers to understand what it means.
Maybe we should add this to document?

Good example! But if we just think about the meaning of variable name, I think someone can think about the result like the below example.

x is

1, 1, 2, 2,

3, 3, 4, 4,
3, 3, 4, 4,

.
(Someone who misunderstood the code can think that) patch_top_left is

1, 1
1, 1

.
But actually patch_top_left is

1, 2
3, 4
