Even I encountered the same issue. When ever internet connection is slow I use to get this message and app is getting crashed I think this is because of connection is getting closed and meteor try to send ping pong message.
Due to using NSAssert(self.open, @"Attempting to send message without an open connection"); in **METDDPConnection.m "sendMessage"**App is getting crashed when ever self.open is false so I got two solutions -

- Go to Build Setting search assert then you will get Enable Foundation Assertions in that for Debug mode make it NO for Release already it is NO
-
- Remove NSAssert(self.open, @"Attempting to send message without an open connection");
from meteor-ios.
