can you provide more detail about what this could look like? Also, the first step I figure should be to add something like http://trac.mapnik.org/changeset/2336/trunk/bindings/python in node-mapnik. Then expose the ability to set the metawriter x,y,z on the map, so we have the same basic functionality as python (to save them to disk). What do you think?

I want to expose geojson tiles through tilelive-mapnik. If we can support metawriter in node-mapnik. I think it would be easy for tilelive to export geojson tiles. Currently i have a app serving raster-tiles, but for the interactivity ( highlighting feature ) i have to rely on TileStach. What do you think ?

This ticket is pretty old, since we changed directions in how to do interactivity. I think that if this is implemented, it'll probably be native GeoJSON output from Mapnik rendering proper, rather than metawriters as currently implemented.

Yes, exactly. GeoJSON output is planned and the api in node-mapnik will land soon (next couple weeks). No plans at this point to expose metawriters in javascript - these are better used via pure XML. closing.
