comp-op is certainly nicer to type, espectially if doing polygon-comp-op etc. Also I think it makes sense to keep mapnik and mapnik-reference similar. I didn't know the SVG spec uses comp-op as well, so I guess it gets points for that.
We should generally aim to avoid unnecessary abbreviations, but composite-operation kind of warrants one I think.

great, thanks guys. Let's change to the abbreviated version then. I will do this today. @tmcw - in terms of warning earlier adopters of the dev builds I will push a note in the TileMill changelog for the next dev build - let me know if you have other ideas.
