This isn't cinnamon-daemon. You've managed to get the Ubuntu notify-osd package installed, which defaults to handling pop ups with interactivity by showing a message box (which is really stupid behavior IMO).
You need to apt-get remove notify-osd. This shouldn't have happened with more recent cinnamon installations since cinnamon's packaging should register it as providing notification-daemon.
To be clear: you do not need to have notify-osd, notification-daemon or any other package other cinnamon installed to have desktop notifications work. Cinnamon handles them (and won't show a pop up).
