Have you read through the specs folder? https://github.com/libp2p/go-libp2p-daemon/tree/master/specs. They're pretty detailed and the other implementations have built off of these.

Thanks @jacobheun! I did, but probably not thoroughly enough (will check again). What I am missing is something like a getting started like:
- open the unix socket
- Send the following command ....
- you should get the following response ....
so I can troubleshoot easily what I am doing wrong. Currently I am opening the socket and then I send messages like identify or a DHT find peer, but I am not getting any response from the daemon.

Are you varint delimiting messages? It's easy to miss in the spec, https://github.com/libp2p/go-libp2p-daemon/blob/master/specs/CONTROL.md#data-types, but all messages should be prepended with varints. Without more information as to what's going on this is my best guess of what you might be running into if you successfully connecting to the daemon socket.

I tried with and without, but anyways I take it from your response that I am conceptually doing the right thing and not missing something, that already helps a lot. Thanks!

I'll close this for now, feel free to reach out if you can't get it working. Also if it helps you could see how the js client goes about this, https://github.com/libp2p/js-libp2p-daemon-client. We're using it to manage Go/JS interop testing.
