Probably we need to update less-docs as well but I can't find any keepSpecialComments there by now (could you point to the section where you see it?).
Either way here you'll find the list of currently supported options within this plugin (you'll also see this list with lessc --clean-css command).

P.S. Ah, I see your mistake now. Programmatic keepSpecialComments is set via s0 and s1 cli options - just the same way it's in clean-css itself.

It is correct in the documentation

I think grunt-contrib-less might be wrong once my v2 pr is pulled - that might need its tests and readme updated.
