Ended up by displaying contributors from the site content itself, by linking the author info to it's about page. In future, it some external contributors wants to be displayed on the list, the post.thyme template can be updated to accept, along with the current authorHandle and authorProfileImage, another two parameters from the articles: externalAuthorProfileUlr and externalAuthorProfileImageUrl. Then these two new variables can be pulled into the template and follow the same logic used right now to display the author info hosted in the static assets.
