I can fix the problem doing this sed previously:
sed -r -e "s/_\\x08//g"
from lain.

You mean modifying the line like this?
/usr/bin/cal | sed -r -e "s/_\\x08//g" | sed -r -e "s/(^| )(27)($| )/\1<b><span foreground=\"#000000\" background=\"#aaaaaa\">\2<\/span><\/b>\3/"from lain.

The widget can take custom cal calls.
Try with
lain.widgets.calendar:attach(mytextclock, {cal = '/usr/bin/cal | sed -r -e "s/_\\x08//g"'})from lain.
