Seems like ResultArea.setRuleMatches() and ResultArea.displayResult() are called in the wrong order?

More tests show that problems occur if AutoCheck is selected. I attach some screen shots.

text-area-lt-options-conflict

The screen shot above shows that LanguageTool Options is not synchronized with the text area and message area.

text-area-and-message-area-conflict2

The screen shot above shows a conflict between the deactivated rules in the message area and the deactivated rule in the text area.

Unlike the problem that I first reported, clicking 'Check Text' does not resolve the problem.

The use of the Message area is creating some problems also with tagging.
My opinion is
a) to remove the Message Area from the main window.
b) when a user selects to tag the text, a new dialog should appear with the tagging result.
c) show a dialog with the Message Area only if user requests it (add an option to the menu) and fix the bugs

But we can leave it like this and i will only fix the bugs.

What do you think?

danielnaber avatar danielnaber commented on July 20, 2024

I agree. What we need though, I think, is some kind of small status area that just tells how many problems were found in the text. Currently, this is also in the message area.

I agree with both Panagiotis and Daniel.

Exactly, we need only the problem count on the status bar and a separate dialog for tagging.

I think moving the status area directly below the result area, and left-aligning it, would look better. What do you think?

from languagetool.

pminos avatar pminos commented on July 20, 2024

I will move the status area as Daniel suggested.

Do you think we must remove the result area and show it on demand in a new dialog? Or i should leave it as it is now?

I think having no result area by default would indeed clean up the interface. The "x potential errors found" could be a link that opens the result area in a new window, maybe? This should probably be discussed in a separate issue.

I struggle to visualize what the interface will look like. In the discussion, examples would be useful.

This defect is fixed (and has been fixed for ages). Sorry for not closing sooner.
